Since 1979, Gable Stage, formerly known as The Florida Shakespeare Theatre (FST), has been at the forefront of South Florida's cultural renaissance. From its early days of Shakespeare productions at Vizcaya to its beautiful current location at the historic Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, it has won critical acclaim for its artistic excellence and has been recognized with numerous Carbonell Awards. The theatre has toured in more than half of Florida's 67 counties, and presented Shakespearean productions, original works and both South Florida and world premieres. Gable Stage's year-round programming presents mainstage productions that range from the classic to the contemporary. It is also involved with the educational community to promote educational theatre programs.
